Background

Climco Coil Company, located in Morrison, IL, produces custom electromagnetic coils and coil assemblies ranging from 30 to 18 gauge. They serve the automotive industry and other OEM customers.

Climco provides extensive customer support, delivers high-quality engineered coils, and works to reduce cost per product through manufacturing automation.

Critical Tension

The process for each coil is comprehensive, and tension control is critical to producing quality coils.

Before adopting the Tensitron TX-5000-1, Climco used analog tension meters for coil testing.

With as many as 13 assembly lines running at once, each with different gauge sizes, they needed greater measurement consistency.

After hearing about Tensitron, they tested the TX series to improve their process.

Tensitron Solution

Climco purchased a TX-5000-1 in July 2018 and later added six more meters after seeing strong results. The meters are used to check wire tension during winding, helping ensure accurate winding outcomes.

Climco uses all seven meters as many as nine times per day across three shifts, testing tension from 300g to 2,500g.

The TX-5000-1 units are now a facility staple because they provide consistent coil tensioning, a key success factor. They also introduced a master tension meter to verify and back up all meter readings for reliability.

Climco values the meters for being user-friendly, customizable by wire gauge, and backed by ongoing Tensitron support to address any meter needs quickly.
