Background

Endicott Coil Company (ECC), based in Binghamton, NY, designs and manufactures custom magnetic coils, transformers, solenoids, and related components. While ECC focuses on industrial, medical, and aerospace markets, it serves a broad range of industries.

Producing over 1 million coils annually, ECC designs each coil to meet the customer’s specific application.

Critical Tension

ECC has been using Tensitron meters to check wire tension for many years. The meter is most often used to test magnet-wire tension during winding operations and is frequently the first tool used to verify setup when anomalies occur.

Since a finished coil can have anywhere from 2 to 50,000 winds, tension monitoring is critical for maintaining control of key electrical characteristics and ensuring long-term product reliability.

Tensitron Solution

When ECC decided to update its tension meters, it turned to its partnership with Tensitron for a quality solution. For the upgrade, ECC purchased the TX-5000-1 and TX-125-1 tension meters, which measure tension across a wide range of wire diameters.

These meters are used throughout the day to verify setups and make fast, effective tension adjustments. They support a tighter, more controlled build process, resulting in more consistent and repeatable electrical characteristics while reducing rework and scrap.

ECC trusts the TX-1 series because the meters are easy to use and dependable.

The TX-1 series can test tension in multiple wire types, fiber optics, and filaments from 0 to 5,000 grams. Multiple models are available based on material size and desired tension range.
