Background
Toho Water Authority (TWA) is the largest provider of water, wastewater and reclaimed water services in Osceola County, Florida. They continually strive toward a standard of excellence for responsible water supply stewardship. Toho currently serves over 100,000 customers in Kissimmee, Poinciana and unincorporated areas of Osceola County.
TWA owns and operates 13 water plants and 8 wastewater plants. With a 300+ person workforce, Toho treats and distributes approximately 37.5 million gallons of potable water and reclaims 27 million gallons of wastewater each day. To connect these locations, TWA has approximately 500 remote stations that communicate data in real time. The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems are responsible for these stations. Several Rohn guy-wire supported towers make up part of the network infrastructure that is used to connect the data to their facilities. TWA uses 7/10 Alumoweld cables to anchor the towers and ensure they are balanced.
Critical Tension
The SCADA division was doing maintenance on the guy-wires and needed a way to test the tension of the cables to maintain essential balance in each tower. They needed a product that would provide easy, accurate tension control, Improve safety and consistency in cable installation and maintenance.
Tensitron Solution
With Tensitron and the CX-2000-1, TWA was able to send in a cable sample and have their new meter calibrated to their specific tension points. They used the meter to replace old guy-wires and recheck newer ones. They now use the CX-2000-1 to test the cables yearly. When prepping for hurricanes, the CX-2000-1 is especially helpful to TWA by ensuring the guy-wires on each tower are at correct tension. The fact that the CX-2000-1 does what is needed is important to TWA.
