Step 1

What type of material are you measuring?

Start with the shape of the material. This determines which type of Tensitron tension meter is best suited to the application.

Wide / Flat Materials

Fabric, Film, Paper & Webs

For wider flat materials such as fabric, paper, film, plastic sheet, metal foil, nonwovens, conveyor belts, and similar web materials.

Wire / Strand Materials

Wire, Yarn, Filament & Narrow Materials

For wire, yarn, thread, fiber optics, monofilament, tape, narrow fabrics, and similar strand materials.

Step 2 · Wide / Flat Materials

How wide is the material?

Wider webs may require readings at several positions across the material to identify uneven tension from edge to edge.

Step 3 · Wide / Flat Materials

Which best describes the material?

Material weight and stiffness are useful indicators of the tension range typically required for the application.

Step 4 · Wide / Flat Materials

How does the process normally run?

High-speed continuous production may benefit from permanent in-line monitoring in addition to a portable meter for setup and verification.

Step 5 · Wide / Flat Materials

What tension range do you normally run?

Enter the minimum and maximum operating tension in pounds. We'll look for a meter that comfortably covers the range.

Step 2 · Wire / Strand Materials

Are you measuring EDM wire?

Electrical discharge machining wire uses a dedicated Tensitron configuration, so we'll identify that application first.

Step 3 · Wire / Strand Materials

How does the process normally run?

Continuous, high-speed winding and processing may benefit from permanent in-line monitoring in addition to portable tension measurements.

Step 4 · Wire / Strand Materials

What tension range do you normally run?

Enter the minimum and maximum operating tension in grams. The selector will identify the Tensitron range that best fits the application.
